Abstract

This paper investigates the influence of electrode stripes on the temperature field of stainless steel resistance spot welding through the finite element simulation software ABAQUS.Resistance spot welding is a complex coupling process in-volving thermal,mechanical,and electrical physical fields,widely used in the connection of stainless steel vehicle body structures.Electrode stripe spot welding reduces indentation and protects the electrode by adding an electrode stripe between the electrode and the workpiece to be welded.Based on field parameters,this study adopts three-dimensional finite element modeling to analyze the effects of electrode stripes on the temperature field,nugget size,and indentation depth.The results show that the electrode stripe can delay the heat dissipation in the spot welding area,which is beneficial for the formation and growth of the nugget;at the same time,the electrode stripe can effectively increase the contact area of the interface,re-duce the pressure on the surface of the workpiece,and thus effectively reduce the indentation depth.Under the same spot welding parameters,the nugget formed by electrode stripe spot welding is slightly larger than that of conventional spot weld-ing.Through experimental verification,the simulation results are basically consistent with the experimental results,further confirming the positive role of electrode stripes in resistance spot welding.This study provides theoretical support for the formulation and optimization of the electrode stripe resistance spot welding process.
