Abstract

Through a field geological survey,the genetic mechanism of Quaternary soft-sediment deformation structures in the Dingmucuo graben in the northern Himalaya are analyzed,and their response to regional tectonic activity is discussed.In the Quaternary lacustrine deposits of the Dingmucuo graben,soft-sediment deformation structures such as load structures,flame structures,liquefied sandstone veins,and the presence of stretched"soft pudding"structures and slump structures have developed,and the associated production of micro-normal faults,synsedimentary faults,and step faults can be seen.The development of such soft-sediment deformation structures was clearly controlled by an active normal fault running through the Dingmucuo,indicating the characteristics of earthquake-triggered soft-sediment deformation structures.The combination types,distribution characteristics,and tectonic setting of the Quaternary soft-sediment deformation structures in the Dingmucuo graben indicate that it is the product of paleoseismic events,which arose due to tectonic activity.Combined with the increase of seismic activity along the Dingmucuo fault in recent years,our study shows that there is still a risk of potential seismic activity in this area in the near future.
