Abstract

Objective To gain an in-depth understanding of the perceptions,attitudes,and experiences of adolescents with emotional disorders during the process of resuming schooling,with the aim of providing reference for the smooth reintegration of adolescents into academic settings.Methods A purposive sampling method was used to conduct semi-structured interviews with 16 adolescents with emotional disorders resuming school.Colaizzi's seven-step analysis was employed to refine the themes.Results A total of 560 minutes of interviews were conducted,and the experiences of adolescents with emotional disorders in returning to school can be summarized into 14 categories,9 concepts,and 3 themes.The 3 themes are as follows:when facing the transition back to school,the coexistence of positive and negative emotions;the transition period back to school is full of challenges;and a smooth transition back to school requires support from multiple aspects.Conclusions The experience of adolescents with emotional disorders in returning to school is complex.Healthcare professionals should closely monitor the psychological changes in ill adolescents,integrate resources from the community,school,and family,and provide multi-system,multi-faceted support to facilitate the smooth reintegration of adolescents with emotional disorders into academic settings.
