Abstract
Objective To study the association between mental health status of junior high school students and their parents'parenting styles,providing a basis for exploring family parenting styles that are conducive to the growth of modern children.Methods A general information questionnaire,the Chinese version of the parental bonding instrument(PBI),and the Chinese version of the 9-item patient health questionnaire(PHQ-9)were respectively administered to a sample of 876 students in selected 6 junior middle schools in Quzhou city.Pearson correlation analysis,partial correlation analysis,and multiple linear stepwise regression were employed to investigate the correlation between the psychological health status of junior high school students and their parents'parenting styles.Results The average PHQ-9 score of 868 junior high school students was(3.02±3.62)points.The total score of paternal care was higher than that of maternal care(t=34.948),and the total score of paternal control was lower than that of maternal control(t=-21.603),all P<0.001;the total score of maternal care was positively correlated with control(r=0.728),while the total score of paternal care was negatively correlated with control(r=-0.625),all P<0.001.After controlling for gender and age,the partial correlation coefficients were 0.728 and-0.622,all P<0.001.After controlling for other parenting styles,the partial correlation coefficients of PHQ-9 total score with paternal care,gender,and age were-0.190,0.092,and 0.080,respectively,all P<0.05.Conclusions Nearly 1/4 of junior high school students have depression problems,and about 7.5%have moderate to severe depressive problems.Parenting style is associated with the depression level of adolescent students,and more paternal care may contribute to the psychological health of adolescent students.关键词
