China's Population Quality Measurement and the Decomposition of Regional Differences

Abstract
This paper constructs the order-preserving principal component evaluation method integrating the importance of the first-level indicators,and measures China's population quality and decomposes the spatial and structural differences.The re-sults go as below:In terms of population quality ranking,Beijing,Shanghai and Tianjin are firmly in the top 3;Yunnan,Xinjiang,Guizhou,Gansu,and Qinghai rank at the bottom.The COVID-19 epidemic has little impact on population quality;from 2019 to 2020,only the population quality of Inner Mongolia has declined slightly.The population quality of the three major regions de-creases from the east to the west.China's population quality presents a phenomenon of spatial agglomeration,with large regional differences and declining fluctuations,from high to low in the western region,the eastern region and the central region.From the structural decomposition of population quality difference,the ideological and moral contribution of eastern region,central region and inter-region(2013-2016)is negative,and the western region is the opposite.The contribution rate of the eastern and inter-re-gional scientific culture is higher,followed by the scientific culture of western region and inter-regional physical fitness.Geo-graphical location and per capita GDP have a significant impact on the difference of population quality,and the explanatory power of population quality is scientific culture,physical fitness,ideology and morality in order from high to low.关键词
