Abstract

Three types of Al2O3 raw material powders with typical characteristics were used to prepare 95Al2O3 ceramics.Model A powder(particle size:~1.55μm,larger particle size),Model B powder(particle size:~0.36μm,uniform parti-cle size distribution),Model C powder(particle size:~0.38μm,powder agglomeration serious).The effects of different raw powders on microstructure,grain size distribution and flexural strength of 95Al2O3 ceramics were studied.Research results show that all three powders can be sintered densely at a sintering temperature of 1 500℃.Since A powder has the largest particle size,the average grain size of the prepared 95Al2O3 ceramic is the largest(2.54μm),the abnormal grain growth is serious,and the flexural strength is the lowest(428±36 MPa).Due to the small particle sizes of B powder and C powder,the prepared 95Al2O3 ceramics have smallergrainsizes,whichare 1.26μm and 1.12μm respectively.However,C powder has serious agglomeration phenomenon,and the sintered ceramic has abnormal grain growth,resulting in its strength(527±34 MPa)being lower than the 95Al2O3 ceramic prepared from A powder(582±25 MPa).
