Abstract

The quantitative detection of glucose is vital for human health monitoring and chronic disease management.At present,the method for glucose detection is mainly based on glucose oxidase(GOx)with simpleness,accessibility,and easy observation.However,the target signals are usually recorded on large and expensive instruments(such as a biochemical analyzer or microplate reader),and analyzed by skilled professionals,which limits the widespread use of such methods in poor areas and densely populated cities.Herein,a ferriferous oxide(Fe3O4)nanozyme-assisted colorimetry method was developed for determination of glucose in serum.Specifically,glucose was catalyzed by GOx to produce hydrogen peroxide(H2O2),and then the 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB)substrate was oxidized by H2O2 with the assistance of peroxidase-like activity of Fe3O4,resulting in blue product.Afterward,the colorimetric signals were measured by a smartphone-based intelligent device with automated data analysis function.The linear response range obtained from this method was 1-30 mmol/L,and the limit of detection(LOD)was 0.366 mmol/L.The method was applied to detection of clinical serum samples(n=20),and the detection results of this device were in good agreement with those by a microplate reader and provided by hospital.The prepared Fe3O4 nanoparticles possessed advantages including high catalytic activity,good stability,easy separation,and repetitive utilization.Taken together,smartphones owned simple operation,excellent image acquisition,data analysis,and easy integration,and benefiting from that,a promising platform for detection of glucose was developed with low lost.
