Association Study Between Cognitive Function and Altitude Among Tibetan Middle School Students in Lhasa

Abstract
Objective To explore the association between cognitive function and altitude among Tibetan middle school students in Lhasa,to provide evidence for the development of cognitive intervention strategies for students in high altitude areas.Methods A total of 1368 Tibetan middle school students in Lhasa City at altitudes of 3590 m,3760 m,and 4285 m were selected by stratified random cluster sampling method from November to December,2023.The Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices(SPM)test was used for questionnaire surveys.Results The prevalence of lower cognitive function were 26.9%,students aged 14,female,residing at higher altitudes had a lower cognitive function(P<0.05).In control of class aggregation,adjusting for confounding factors such as gender and age,multivariate linear regression analysis showed that students at altitudes of 3 760 m and 4 285 m had lower cognitive scores compared to those at 3 590 m.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that students at altitudes of 3 760 m and 4 285 m had a lower cognitive function compared to those at 3590 m.With other variables at mean values,the probability of lower cognitive function among students at 4285 m was 0.37(37%).Conclusion The cognitive function among Tibetan students was associated with altitude and gender;female students had a higher risk of cognitive impairment;as increases in altitude,the probability of cognitive impairment among Tibetan students also elevated.关键词
