Abstract

Using powdered activated carbon(PAC)as the raw material,and palygorskite(PGS)that was rich in silicon and magnesium as the binder to prepare activated carbon-based silicon magnesium composite material(PAC/PGS)by extrusion molding method.The effects of different carbon-soil ratios,roasting temperatures,etc.on the performance of PAC/PGS were investigated to determine the optimal molding conditions.Thermogravimetric(TG)analysis,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and specific surface area were used to characterize the structure of the material.The results showed that the optimal performance of PAC/PGS was achieved when the carbon-soil mass ratio was 50∶50,the roasting temperature was 300℃as well as the roasting time was 60 min,and the abrasion resistance of PAC/PGS could reach more than 90%.The adsorption value of PAC/PGS for methylene blue was 221.2 mg/g,the iodine adsorption value was 718.1 mg/g,the adsorption rate of carbon tetrachloride was 72%,the specific surface area was 927 m2/g,the total pore volume was 0.765 7 cm3/g,the average pore size was 3.21 nm,and the yield was 96.2%,which had a good adsorption performance and pore structure.Under this condition,the PGS had internal opened pores,where PAC was distributed among the rod-like crystals of PGS,forming more abundant irregular pores.The pores of PAC/PGS were mainly distributed in the range of 0.6-0.9 nm and 1.1-30 nm,and mesopores accounts for approximately 80%.
