Correlation analysis of testosterone/estradiol ratio and metabolic syndrome in middle-aged and elderly men
摘要
Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between the testosterone(T)/estradiol(E2)ratio and metabolic syndrome(MS)in middle-aged and elderly men, providing a reference for clinical treatment. Methods This was a single-center,pro-spective,controlled study.A total of 150 MS patients(MS group)admitted between April 2022 and April 2023 were select-ed as study participants. An additional 80 middle-aged and elderly health examinees were selected as the control group.Data on the participants'age, smoking history, alcohol history, body mass index(BMI),waist circumference, fasting plasma glucose(FPG),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c),total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),fasting insulin(FINS),homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),testosterone(T),estradiol(E2),luteinizing hormone(LH),follicle-stimulating hor-mone(FSH),progesterone(P),prolactin(PRL),and T/E2 ratio were collected. The differences between the two groups for these indicators were compared.Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between T/E2 and com-ponents of MS.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the risk factors for MS.Results The BMI,waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure of the MS group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).The MS group also showed higher levels of FPG,HbA1c,FINS,HOMA-IR,and TG,while HDL-C levels were lower compared to the control group, with significant differences(P<0.05).Serum T levels and the T/E2 ratio in the MS group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis indicated that T/E2 was negatively correlated with age,BMI,waist circumference, systolic blood pressure,FPG,FINS,HOMA-IR,and TG(P<0.05),and positively correlated with HDL-C(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed waist circumference,HOMA-IR,and TG were risk factors for MS(OR>1,P<0.05),while T/E2 was a protective factor(OR<1,P<0.05).Conclusion The T/E2 ratio is significantly reduced in middle-aged and elderly men with MS,and it correlates with age,BMI,waist circumference, systolic blood pressure,FPG,FINS,HOMA-IR,TG,and HDL-C.The T/E2 ratio can be used as one of the factors for predicting the occurrence of MS in middle-aged and elderly men.关键词
