Abstract

Using waste carbon residue(WCR)as the carbon source,water-soluble iron salts and solid iron powder as the iron sources,iron-carbon materials(ICM)were prepared by liquid-phase impregnation method and solid-phase ball milling method.Various means such as SEM,TEM,EDS,XRD,and XPS were applied to characterize the iron loading effect of different ICM,based on which the preparation methods of ICM were optimized.The experimental results indicate that both methods can effectively combine WCR with the corresponding iron source.The ICM produced by liquid-phase impregnation has Fe uniformly adhered to in the form of Fe2O3/Fe2+/Fe3+,without highly active zero-valent iron(ZVI).The one produced by solid-phase ball milling contains Fe in the form of Fe/FeO/Fe2O3/Fe2+,presenting a fusion between different elements.However,a large number of fine particles generated by ball overmilling may cause a masking effect on the fusion between Fe and C.By reducing the particle size of the Fe source and adding Fe3O4 for a 24 h ball milling,ICM can be obtained with uniform particle size,efficient fusion,and rich Fe2O3.After liquid-phase impregnation and high-temperature pyrolysis,nano Fe spheroids(n-ZVI and/or n-FeSx)tightly bound to the C residue composite can be gained.
