Assessment and prospect of ecological environment recovery in Haihe River Basin in the past ten years

Abstract

Water ecology of the Haihe River Basin faces great challenges brought by dry up of the river,lake shrinkage and degradation of aquatic ecosystems.In recent years,ecological restoration of river and lake has been carried out in the basin.Key measures and achievements since 2014 were reviewed.There were 52 rivers and 5 key lakes of 3 major water systems in the basin were selected as evaluation objects.On the basis of six indicators of duration of river with flow,length and surface area of river with flow,water level of lake,groundwater level,water quality of river and lake,and water ecology status,a combination of hydrological monitoring and remote sensing interpretation analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of ecological restoration.The results show that since 2014,the duration,length,and surface area of the river have been increased;the level of groundwater aquifer has been risen;water quality has become better without Class V water being found in the basin;and biodiversity and environment have been improved.In response to new requirements and challenges,it is recommended to take stringent water resources management,allocate water from different sources,perfect ecological flow safeguarding system and long-term governance mechanism,accelerate digital twin Haihe River construction,enhance monitoring and evaluation capabilities,improve health of river and lake and strive to sustainable development of the basin.
