Prediction method for lateral deformation of prefabricated vertical drains improved ground under surcharge preloading

Abstract
To investigate the lateral deformation characteristics of prefabricated vertical drains improved ground under surcharge preloading and establish corresponding prediction method for lateral deformation,a radial drained triaxial test and numerical simulations under multiple conditions were conducted based on a self-developed improved triaxial test device.The influence of vertical stress,horizontal stress,loading rate,and initial effective stress on the soil lateral deformation and stress ratio was systematically studied.The results indicate that the lateral deformation of soil increases nonlinearly with the increase of vertical stress,the decrease of horizontal stress,the increase of loading rate,and the decrease of initial effective stress.The representative stress ratio of soil(K*e)nonlinearly decreases with the increase of loading rate and the decrease of initial effective stress,approximately linearly increases with the increase of horizontal stress,and first decreases linearly and then nonlinearly with the increase of vertical stress.There is a significant horizontal additional stress in the shallow layer of the ground under surcharge preloading,and its impact on the ground lateral deformation cannot be ignored.The combined effect of horizontal and vertical additional stresses promotes the lateral deformation of vertical drains improved ground under preloading first increases and then decreases with depth,presenting an arched distribution shape.Based on the results,a normalized relationship between the stress ratio K*e and the final horizontal strain εh of the soil is established.Additionally,a comprehensive influence factor β is proposed,which considers the surcharge preloading parameters and the radial consolidation properties of the soil.The K*e under different conditions can be estimated through the linear fitting relationship between β and K*e.Combining the εh-K*e and K*e-β relationships,a prediction method for the lateral deformation profile of the vertical drains improved ground under surcharge preloading is proposed.The developed method is applied to analyze two field engineering cases and good prediction results are obtained.The research results can provide a reference for the analysis and design of vertical drains improved ground under surcharge preloading.关键词
