Image Semantic Communication Technologies:Review and Perspective

摘要

Abstract

Image semantic communication,as an innovative communication paradigm,is designed to improve communication efficiency by transmitting semantic information in images.Compared with traditional communication methods,image semantic communication transmits semantic information extracted from image data at the sending end,while the receiving end directly uses the semantic information or recovers the original image according to such semantic information,which effectively reduces the bandwidth requirements of image transmission,significantly improves the transmission efficiency,and provides a new method for image transmission.The authors summarize the theory and framework of semantic communication,discusse the related work on image semantic communication,and introduce the basic framework of semantic communication as well as the current state of the art of theoretical and experimental research on image semantic communication.Furthermore,the challenges and problems faced by the existing image semantic communication technology are analyzed,aiming to provide useful references and insights for future research.Finally,the research method of task-oriented image semantic communication scheme is proposed to provide theoretical guidance for the development of image semantic communication technology.
