Abstract

[Objective]In order to screen plants suitable for ditches with small cross-sectional areas and frequentalternation of drought and wet conditions in the Taihu Lake region,and to clarify their absorptioncharacteristics of runoff nitrogen and phosphorus,providing a scientific basis for the selection of plants for nitrogen and phosphorus interception in vegetable field ecological ditches.[Methods]An improved depletion experiment method was used to study the absorption kinetics of nitrate nitrogen(NO3--N),ammonium nitrogen,and total soluble phosphorus(TSP)by five plants with moderate biomass and preference for moist and slightly drought-resistant conditions widely distributed in the Taihu Lake region,including Bidens pilosa L.,Lythrum salicaria L.,Hemarthria sibirica(Gand.)Ohwi,Hydrocotyle vulgaris L.,and Lpomoea aquatica Forsk.The nitrogen and phosphorus removal potential was evaluated to enhance the interception efficiency of vegetable field runoff ecological ditches.[Results]Among the five plants,Ipomoea aquatica Forsk.and Hemarthria sibirica(Gand.)Ohwi showed the broadest adaptability to NO3--N and TSP concentrations,respectively.Bidens pilosa L.and Lythrum salicaria L.had the broadest adaptability to ammonium nitrogen concentration.After cultivating Ipomoea aquatica Forsk.,Bidens pilosa L.,Lythrum salicaria L.,and Hemarthria sibirica(Gand.)Ohwi in combination,the removal of NO3--N,ammonium nitrogen,and TSP in the nitrogen and phosphorus culture solution reached 24%,22%,and 27%within 6 hours,respectively.Compared with the absorption of three indices by a single plant,they showed strong comprehensive absorption capacity and had asignificant advantage in simultaneously absorbing and removing NO3--N,ammonium nitrogen,and TSP.[Conclusion]Ipomoea aquatica Forsk.,Lythrum salicaria L.,and Hemarthria sibirica(Gand.)Ohwi have broader adaptability to NO3--N,ammonium nitrogen,and TSP concentrations,respectively,and Bidens pilosa L.has good potential and affinity for the absorption of ammonium nitrogen and TSP.lt is recommended to alternately plant Hemarthria sibirica(Gand.)Ohwi,Ipomoea aquatica Forsk.,Bidens pilosa L.,and Lythrum salicaria L.in the ecological ditches of vegetable fields in the Taihu Lake region,with the aim of maximizing the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from vegetable field runoff.
