Abstract

Laminated bamboo lumber(LBL)and H-shaped steel are connected by bolts to form a steel-bamboo composite beam.The bamboo is located at the compression zone of the composite beam,and the section steel is located at the tension zone,which can utilize their respective advantages to solve the problem of steel compression instability and brittle destruction of bamboo in tension.For this reason,static tests were carried out to investigate the bending performance of the composite beam with varying bolt spacing,thickness and width of the laminated bamboo lumber.The experiment results indicate that,in the elastic phase,the stiffness and load capacity of the composite beam are similar to those of the steel beam,but in the elastic-plastic phase,the bamboo material inhibits the instability occurred to the steel section.The average bending load capacity of composite beams is 1.9 times that of steel beams,and the deformation capacity of steel-bamboo composite beam is greater,with ductility coefficient being up to 4.2.The bending capacity of the composite beam decreases slightly with the increasing of bolt spacing,and increases to varying degrees with the increasing of thickness and width of the bamboo lumber.Considering the flexible characteristics of bolted connectors,the strain analysis model and the calculation formulae considering the relative slip at the interface between bamboo and steel beams were proposed,and the bending capacity calculation formulas of the composite beams were deduced.The formula results agree well with the experimental results with high accuracy,which can be used for the application of composite beam.
