Abstract

To reduce operation costs and promote the high-quality development of China Railway Express,this paper proposed a new empty container repositioning approach to container sharing mode,including intra-terminal and inter-terminal container sharing among the railway companies.With the optimization goal of minimizing the sum of domestic and foreign empty container repositioning cost and the empty container repositioning cost between domestic and foreign container sharing stations,the paper integrated different constraints such as empty container allocation limits,available empty container quantities at stations,and container sharing modes.It built an empty container repositioning model that met the operational demands of railway services at various stations during the planning period and designed an immune-genetic algorithm to achieve optimization.The case study results of the major cities within the China Railway Express network show that the empty container repositioning approach featuring container sharing can reduce the total cost of empty container repositioning by 58.18%compared with the existing scheme.This research provides a reference for transportation cost reduction and the promotion of the high quality development of China Railway Express.
