Implementation effect of anonymous review of postgraduate theses in a health research institution
摘要
Abstract
Objective To analyze the implementation effect of anonymous thesis review of a health re-search institute in Beijing from 2018 to 2023,and to provide reference for improving the organization work and management of thesis review.Methods Based on the anonymous review results of 1 045 graduate dissertations from a health research institute in Beijing from 2018 to 2023,Excel and SPSS were used to statistically analyze the probability of passing anonymous review for the first submission,as well as the possible impact of expert selection,review indicators,and review organization work on the anonymous review results during the organizational process.Results The pass proportion of the first submission was over 88％.Statistical analysis results showed that the fa-miliarity of reviewers with the field of the thesis did not have a significant impact on the evaluation results(x2=11.164,P＞0.05);the evaluation results given by two experts had no significant difference(x2=5.988,P＞0.05).The average review cycle for a thesis was 10.61±6.15 days,with a median of 9 days.Totally 97.5％(1019/1045)of the theses were appraised within 25 days(inclusive).The overall evaluation of a thesis was sig-nificantly correlated with four sub-indicators(topic selection,innovation and thesis value,basic knowledge and re-search capacity,and thesis standardization),with correlation coefficients of 0.614,0.700,0.735,and 0.670,respectively;the four sub-indicators together explained 74.1％of the overall evaluation's variation,basic knowl-edge and research capacity having the greatest impact on the overall evaluation,followed by innovation and thesis value,paper standardization,and topic selection.The correlation coefficient between the overall evaluation of the thesis and the review results(whether allowed to do a thesis defense)was 0.584.Conclusions The anonymous review of graduate theses implemented by a health research institute in Beijing from 2018 to 2023 can effectively ensure the accuracy,scientificity,and timeliness of the review.By optimizing evaluation indicators and establis-hing a differentiated evaluation system for academic and professional dissertations,we can ensure timely and accu-rate updates of expert key information,improve the matching between expert key information and dissertations,es-tablish avoidance and appeal mechanisms,further improve the review system for dissertations,and better ensure the objectivity,effectiveness,fairness,and impartiality of review.关键词
