Impulse Characteristics of TVS Tube Under Strong Electromagnetic Pulse

Abstract
The action characteristic response of transient voltage suppressor(TVS)of protective devices under nanosecond strong electromagnetic pulse is investigated.Based on the reverse breakdown theory of TVS tubes,the method of combining theory and experiment is adopted,and the nanosecond strong elec-tromagnetic pulse generator is used as the electromagnetic pulse source.TVS tubes of different models of 1.5KE series are selected to conduct the injection experiment under different intensity of electromagnetic pulse.Comprehensive analysis shows that the error rate of residual voltage increases from 4%to 16%when the DC breakdown voltage increases.With the increase of impulse voltage,the operation time of TVS tube gradually decreases,and finally stays constant at about 31 ns.When the impulse voltage of TVS tube is fixed,TVS is more likely to reach saturation with the increase of DC breakdown voltage of the de-vice.The tested TVS tube absorbs energy between 0.000 3 J~0.005 J,the amount of energy absorbed by TVS tubes of the same model is positively correlated with the impulse voltage applied at both ends and the DC breakdown voltage of TVS tubes.关键词
