摘要

Abstract

When the host's defense system is unable to promptly eliminate microorganisms entering the lungs,oral microbiota can colonize the lungs and affect the lower respiratory tract's pulmonary function.Among oral microorganisms,Porphyromonas gingivalis(P.gingivalis)is a key pathogen associated with periodontal disease(PD),a chronic inflammatory condition character-ized by a high prevalence of periodontitis.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),on the other hand,is a chronic inflam-matory disease of the airways that occurs in the respiratory system.PD,mediated by P.gingivalis,influences the inflammatory re-sponse,and cell-mediated immunity,and activates oxidative stress as well as apoptosis pathways,thereby altering the pulmonary microbiome and establishing a close association with COPD,affecting its progression.This article focuses on the epidemiologic in-vestigation of PD and COPD and common risk factors,the pathways and key mechanisms by which the key causative agent of PD,P.gingivalis,affects the development of COPD,the impact of intervening P.gingivalis on the efficacy of COPD treact-ment,and the impact of P.gingivalis on other respiratory disorders,for the purpose of providing new treatment ideas for patients of PD accompanied with COPD.
