Abstract
The theoretical foundations of environmental adult education integrate Knowles'self-directed learning theory,Friere's conscientization theory,feminist adult education,arts-based adult education,and outdoor experiential learning theory.Since the 1970s,environmental adult education has undergone four developmental stages:the initial exploration phase,the research boom and emphasis on sustainable development in the 1980s,the e-mergence as an independent research field in the 1990s,and the focus on experiential learning and community development in the 21st century.In interna-tional practice,the United Kingdom utilizes public spaces,Australia relies on community settings,and Malaysia employs non-governmental organizations as platforms for environmental adult education.Drawing on international experiences,China should update its adult education curriculum to incorporate en-vironmental issues,innovate teaching methods by valuing adults'prior learning experiences,adopt experiential teaching approaches and develop conven-ient learning resource platforms for adults.关键词
