Spatial and Structural Evolution of the She Ethnic Residences in Changxi River Basin,Fujian Province
摘要
Abstract
The Changxi River Basin in Fujian Prov-ince is home to a rich heritage of the traditional She ethnic residences, reflecting the architectural char-acteristics of various historical periods.Based on the history of the She ethnic group in the Changxi River Basin, this article focuses on the relationships between family organisation, residential space, and framing system. It identifies three residential types across three historical stages:(1)the primitive straw huts of the shifting cultivation period(late 16th-early 17th centuries),(2)the'hai'er chengsan'(lit.child holding an umbrella)frame and the dual-post frame houses of the early fixed cultivation period(mid-to-late 17th century),and(3)the'extended family-oriented'She ethnic residences of the mid-to-late fixed cultivation period(18th-early 19th centuries). The article further analyses the defining features and evolutionary patterns of residential forms at each stage.By conducting a dynamic and continuous investigation of traditional She ethnic residences as a whole, this article aims to enhance the understanding of the architectural characteris-tics of these residences and explore the integrated relationships among the core elements of residen-tial buildings.关键词
