A Horizontal Exploration of Acupuncture and Moxibustion:Academic History and Ancient Literature

Abstract
Acupuncture and moxibustion plays a crucial role in the internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).Acupuncture and moxibustion has demonstrated remarkable resilience,experiencing peaks during the Qin and Han Dynasties,resurgence during the Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties,and revival in the Republic of China Era despite multiple times of marginalization in history.By reviewing the development process of acupuncture and moxibustion,analyzing three major historical factors that impeded the development of acupuncture and moxibustion,namely the cognitive limitations of practitioners,low acceptance rates of patients,and governmental policy constraints,acupuncture and moxibustion literature is categorized into four types:essential literature,lost treasurable literature,practical literature,and esoteric literature.The paper explores the historical evolution of moxibustion therapies,compares its ancient and modern applications,introduces recently unveiled rare ancient books on acupuncture and moxibustion,comprehensively reassesses its academic value,and explores pathways for its inheritance and development.关键词
