Comparative Analysis of the Efficacy of Diclazuril and Toltrazuril Against Coccidiosis in Calves

Abstract
Bovine coccidiosis is a disease caused primarily by protozoa of the genus Eimeria,which significantly impacts the cattle industry.To evaluate the efficacy of different drugs in controlling Eimeria infections,45 calves approximately 2 months old were divided into three groups:the diclazuril treatment group(DCZ group,n=15),the toltrazuril treatment group(TTZ group,n=15),and the Control group(n=15).After a single administration,observations were conducted over 90 days.Clinical effectiveness against coccidiosis was assessed through fecal sample scores,average oocysts per gram of feces(OPG),coccidiosis infection rates,and average daily gain(ADG).The results showed that compared to the Control group,fecal sample scores were significantly reduced in the DCZ and TTZ groups at 90 days post-treatment.The average OPG and infection rates in the DCZ group steadily declined after administration and remained at low levels,while the TTZ group saw OPG and infection rates drop to zero within 30 days post-treatment.In contrast,the Control group maintained high levels of OPG and infection rates throughout the study.At 90 days post-treatment,the TTZ group exhibited slightly higher ADG than the DCZ group,but both treatment groups demonstrated substantial ADG improvements compared to the Control group.The results indicate that both DCZ and TTZ effectively prevent Eimeria infections in calves,alleviate diarrhea,and improve weight gain,with TTZ demonstrating superior efficacy compared to DCZ.关键词
