Clinical characteristics and risk factors analysis for children with Epstein-Barr virus infection accompanied by neutrophil granu-locytopenia

Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics and risk factors for children with Epstein-Barr(EB)virus infection accompanied by neutrophil(NEU)granulocytopenia.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 343 children with EB virus infection admitted to Langfang People's Hospital from May 2020 to September 2023.They were grouped into NEU granulocytopenia group and control group based on whether they were accompanied by NEU granulocytopenia.Clinical features(general information,diseases and treatment data)and laboratory auxiliary examination data were compared between the two groups,and multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to analyze the risk factors for EB virus infection combined with NEU granulocytopenia.Results Forty-seven cases were accompanied by a decrease in NEU among 343 pediatric patients,with a concomitant rate of 13.70％.There were statistical differences between the NEU granulocytopenia group and the control group in terms of age,proportion of high fever,fever duration,EB virus load,and antiviral drug use time,erythrocyte sedimentation rate(all P＜0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors for EB virus infection in children with NEU granulocytopenia mainly included age of one month-＜3 years or 3-6 years(OR=2.794,and 2.135),long fever course(OR=2.616),high EB virus load(OR=3.024),and antiviral drug use time＞2 weeks(OR=2.805)(all P＜0.05).Conclusion Aged ≤6 years,long fever course,high EB virus load,antiviral drug use time＞2 weeks are related to NEU granulocytopenia in children with EB virus infection.Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen attention to EB virus infected children with the above factors and develop appropriate preventive measures to reduce the risk of NEU granulocytopenia.关键词
