From Louis I.Kahn to Balkrishna Doshi:Regionally Adaptive Creation Based on Rational Construction

Abstract
In 1962,Louis Isadore Kahn was invited to serve as the consulting architect for the Ahmedabad Campus of the Indian Institute of Management(IIM).During this project,Balkrishna Doshi was involved in the design process.This experience provided Doshi with a profound and direct exposure to modernist architectural ideas,and Kahn's architectural philosophy had a lasting impact on Doshi's creative direction.Subsequently,when working on the design of the Bangalore Campus of IIM,Doshi focused on creating an adaptive synthesis of modernist architecture and Indian regional culture,building upon the rational construction principles established by Kahn.This paper examines the cases of the two IIM campuses led by these two masters,exploring both commonalities and differences in their creative philosophies.It aims to summarize general strategies for regionally adaptive creation in the context of both Kahn and Doshi.关键词
