A Study of the"Hou Guan Jian(候馆简)"Qin Bamboo Slips Stored in Yuelu Academy

Abstract
The regulations concerning the est ablishment and management of Hou Guan(候馆)found in the Yuelu Academy Collection of Qin Bamboo Slips(V),slips 212-213,confirm the historical validity of the records in Zhou Li,Di Guan,Yi Ren(周礼·地官·遗人).The placement of Hou Guan(候馆)in markets may represent one of the origins of early Chinese mar-kets,and Hou Guan(候馆)were likely the precursors to market management institutions known as Shiting(市亭)set up later on.Furthermore,the transactions—such as buying,selling,or lending—documented in Chuanshi Lü(传食律)from the Qin and Han bamboo slips,which often took place in Hou Guan(候馆)or Chuanshe(传舍),further attest to the close relationship between Hou Guan(候馆)and marketplaces.关键词
