Origins,Management,and Implications of Part-Time Faculty in American Community Colleges

Abstract
This article commences by examining the backdrop that led to the emergence of part-time faculty in American community colleges.It then delves into the current state of management of this faculty cohort,highlighting several key aspects:the establishment of a refined recruitment system that ensures educational excellence and the perpetuation of quality;the broadening of professional development pathways through multidimensional training,certification incentives,and a global perspective;a critical review of the compensation and benefits system,advocating for multi-faceted initiatives to promote equal pay for equal work and fair treatment;and an exploration of the evaluation system,emphasizing a multi-stakeholder approach with diverse criteria and parallel incentives.From these insights,the article draws lessons,hoping to enhance the management of part-time faculty in Chinese universities and elevate the overall quality of faculty management by drawing upon the experiences of American community colleges.关键词
