Abstract

The spatial evolution patterns of water systems and the impact of human activities on these patterns are not yet fully understood.Analyzing the development rules of rivers and revealing the universal laws governing the natural development of water systems,which is constrained by river energy supply,holds significant importance.This study employs GIS technology combined with an index analysis method to compare the actual water systems with those extracted from DEM data in both the mountainous-hilly areas and urban areas of Nanchang City,focusing on network density,geometric structure,and box-counting dimension.The research findings indicate that,regardless of whether in mountainous-hilly areas or urban areas,the density of water systems extracted from DEM is significantly higher than that of actual water systems.In mountainous-hilly areas,the geometric structures of DEM-extracted water systems are basically consistent with those of actual water systems,whereas there are noticeable differences in the geometric structures between the two in urban areas.The box-counting dimension of urban water systems is markedly higher than that of mountainous-hilly area water systems,and the box-counting dimensions of actual water systems in both urban and mountainous-hilly areas are higher than those of DEM-extracted water systems.These research findings can provide valuable references for water system planning and related constructions.
