Abstract

The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of different nitrogen application rates on the production performance and feed quality of GanNong No.7 alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.).A single-factor experimental design was employed,with GanNong No.7 alfalfa as the subject of study.Five treatment groups were set up in field plots,with three replicates per group.These were the control group(N0 group),N1 group,N2 group,N3 group,and N4 group,with nitrogen levels of 0,50,100,150,and 200 kg/hm2,respectively.The results showed that there were no significant differences in stem thickness,leaf length,leaf width,survival rate,and overwintering survival rate of alfalfa among different nitrogen application rates(P>0.05).Compared to the control group,the plant height of alfalfa in the N2 and N3 groups was significantly increased(P<0.05).The fresh forage yield of alfalfa in the N2,N3,and N4 groups was significantly increased(P<0.05).The dry hay yield of alfalfa in the N1 to N4 groups was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the dry hay yield of the N2 and N3 groups was higher than that of the N1 and N4 groups(P<0.05).Compared to the control group,the crude protein content of alfalfa in the N2,N3,and N4 groups was significantly increased(P<0.05),the neutral detergent fiber content of alfalfa in the N2 and N3 groups was significantly reduced(P<0.05),and the relative feed value of alfalfa in the N1 to N4 groups was significantly improved(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the content of mineral elements such as calcium,phosphorus,and potassium in alfalfa among different nitrogen application rates(P>0.05).The study indicates that different nitrogen application rates have a significant impact on the production performance and feed quality of alfalfa,with the application rate of 100 to 150 kg/hm2 being the most effective.
