Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of metagenomics next-generation sequencing in children with central nervous system infection.Methods A total of 45 children suspected of central nervous system infection admitted to and treated in Heilongjiang Hospital of Beijing Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University from January 2023 to May 2024 were selected,and 6ml of cerebrospinal fluid was collected,and then the metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS)was compared with conventional detection,respectively.Results A total of 26 suspected pathogens were successfully identified by mNGS technology,and 3 suspected pathogens were detected by cerebrospinal fluid microbial culture technology.In the diagnosis of infectious diseases of central nervous system,the sensitivity,accuracy and negative predictive value of the mNGS group were all higher than those of the microbial culture group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).While the specificity and positive predictive value of the mNGS group were all similar to those of the microbial culture group,without statistically significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion When evaluating the diagnosis of children's central nervous system infection,mNGS has obvious advantages compared with cerebrospinal fluid microbial culture examination,but it should still be combined with a variety of examination methods to achieve the objective of accurate judgment.
