Research on income increasing effect of farmers coupled with digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution

Abstract
The modernization of agricultural product distribution,as a critical path for the effective connection between small farmers and large markets,and its synergistic integration with the digital economy are beneficial to promoting the income growth of farmers.On the basis of systematically clarifying the coupling mechanism of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product circulation,this paper relies on the panel data of 30 provinces in China(excluding Tibet,Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan)from 2013 to 2022,and constructs the evaluation index system of digital economy from the four dimensions including digital infrastructure,digital development environment,digital industrialization and industrial digitization.At the same time,the evaluation index system of agricultural product circulation modernization is guided by the theory of business flow,logistics and information flow,and the entropy method and coefficient of variation method are adopted to measure the two respectively.Subsequently,the coupling coordination degree model,panel two-way fixed effect model,panel mediation effect model and panel threshold model are comprehensively applied to explore the impact and mechanism of the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution on the income of farmers.It provides empirical evidence and decision-making reference for narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas,searching for the potential realization path of common prosperity,fully releasing the digital dividend,and speeding up the modernization of agricultural product distribution.The research results show as follows.First,the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution has a significant positive impact on income increase of farmers,and the conclusion still holds after the robustness test of instrumental variable estimation,propensity score matching,and replacement indicator evaluation methods.In addition,the level of government support,economic development,financial progress and per capita grain production all contribute positively to the increase in farmers'incomes.Secondly,regional heterogeneity suggests that the income-increasing effect of the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution is significantly present in different regions,particularly in developed regions and supportive regions.Focusing on the source of farmers'income growth,the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution increases the overall income growth of farmers through raising their wage income.Thirdly,mechanism analysis indicates that rural labor transfer plays a masking effect in the process of coupling digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution to promote the overall income increase of farmers.Namely,the positive impact of the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution on the income growth of farmers is,to a certain extent,weakened by the negative influence of the rural labor transfer to non-agricultural employment.Fourthly,it is further found that the income-increasing effect of the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution has a non-linear trend of increasing marginal effect.In other words,with the deep integration and high coordination of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution,its role in promoting the income growth of farmers can be fully utilized.Based on the above conclusions,first of all,in the future,we should proactively explore the construction of an integrated and comprehensive demonstration zone where regional agricultural products production,processing,e-commerce logistics and other multi-links are clustered,as well as we should deeply promote the development of digitization,platformization,modernization and intelligent development of agricultural products circulation,and contribute to the high-level integration,management and sharing of agricultural products data resources.In second place,each region should stand on the basis of its own development characteristics,appropriately draw on and absorb the advanced experience and coordination model of the integration of the digital economy and the modernization of the agricultural product circulation in developed regions at home and abroad,break down local protection and regional barriers,strengthen interregional synergy,and be proficient in mismatched development,so as to realize the efficient circulation of resource elements and technological knowledge.Furthermore,it is imperative to objectively analyze and rationally identify the masking effect of rural labor transfer between the coupling of digital economy and modernization of agricultural product distribution and the increase of farmers'incomes,rather than blindly promoting the transfer of rural labor to non-agricultural employment.Accordingly,governments at all levels and relevant subjects should strive to enhance the vocational qualifications of farmers and broaden the channels for farmers to increase their income so that the sources of farmers'income can be diversified.Finally,we will accelerate the penetration,integration and in-depth application of the digital economy in agriculture-related fields,continuously promote the digital transformation of related industries and existing infrastructure in the countryside,make every effort to strengthen the level of benign coordination between the digital economy and the modernization of agricultural product circulation,so as to gradually activate the reinforcing effect of increasing farmers'incomes as a result of the high degree of synergy between the two.关键词
