Abstract

K and Li are key mineral resources required to ensure China's agricultural food security and support the development of a new energy industry,allowing China to continue to maintain a high degree of foreign independence.Institute of Mineral Resources,Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in collaboration with Changqing Oilfield Branch,Petrochina,upon"exploration of both oil and salt",have made new discoveries of K-,Li-,and Rb-rich oilfield water in the fourth member of the lower member of the Majiagou Formation in the eastern salt basin of northern Shaanxi in the Ordos Basin,including Wells Mitan 6 and Yuyang 1.This water represents a newly discovered Li and K resource stratum in the Ordos Basin.Test results show that the KCl content of the brine in this layer is 1.798%-3.573%,and the LiCl content is 1 460.606-1 915.152 mg/L,both representing industrial grade concentrations;the contents of Rb2O and Br also reach industrial and comprehensive utilization standards.The fourth member of the Majiagou Formation is widely distributed in the basin.The discovery of K-,Li-,and Br-rich oilfield waters indicates good prospects for K and Li resources in the Ordos Basin.
