Abstract

A 1D steady thermoelectric refrigeration energy conversion model coupled with thermal resistances was established to analyze the effects of the thermal resistance of cold and hot ends on the refrigeration performance of a semiconductor thermoelectric cooler.This approach obtains an analytical formula for the relationship between the refrigeration performance of the thermoelectric couple and its thermal resistance at the cold and hot ends,as well as other factors such as thermoelectric and geometric parameters.An experimental apparatus was developed to evaluate the refrigeration performance of a high-temperature thermoelectric cooler,designed in accordance with the theoreti-cal model.The test results are consistent with the calculated outcomes.This study examines the impact of cold re-sistance,hot resistance,and cooling temperature on the refrigeration performance of the system.The findings indi-cate that the thermal resistance at the cold end has a negligible impact on performance at elevated temperatures,with an influence of less than 3%.By contrast,an increase in thermal resistance at the hot end elevates the work-ing temperature difference across the thermoelectric couple,which reduces the thermoelectric properties of the ma-terials.Consequently,the refrigeration performance declines.However,enhancing the cooling conditions of the hot end can effectively improve the refrigeration performance of the couple.The findings of this study provide a valuable reference for the design and characteristic analysis of semiconductor thermoelectric coolers.
