Abstract

To investigate the distribution and influencing factors of dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC)in Baiyangdian Lake,overlying water samples were collected and analyzed during both the wet season(July)and dry season(December).The results showed that DIC concentration in Baiyangdian Lake was 181.75~336.26 mg·L-1 with significant seasonal differences.The increased rainfall and water replenishment during the wet season resulted in higher mass concentrations during dry season.Spatially,during the wet season,DIC concentration was influenced by multi-factors such as photosynthesis,human activities,runoff,and dilution,and presented an increasing trend from north to south.Conversely,during the dry season,DIC concentration exhibited a decreasing trend from north to south.Reduced water replenishment from the Yellow River and Tang River in the southern part of Baiyangdian Lake led to decreasing runoff,weakening water-rock interactions and reducing CO2 input,thereby lowering DIC concentrations.In the northern region of Baiyangdian Lake,mineralization of organic matter due to aquatic biota and the presence of water replenishment gates promoted the increase of DIC concentration.DIC concentration in Baiyangdian Lake is primarily influenced by the coupling effects of photosynthesis and respiration,rock weathering,and human activities.During the wet season,DIC content is influenced by photosynthesis and respiration,carbonate and silicate weathering,and CO2 from the water-air interface,while anthropogenic acidification has relatively weaker impacts on weathering.During the dry season,DIC content is influenced by a combination of photosynthesis,respiration,carbonate weathering,and human activities.The study findings provide important insights into the role of shallow lakes in global climate change and carbon cycling,and provide valuable references for investigating CO2 sources and sinks in lakes,carbon storage in lakes and identifying"missing carbon sinks".
