Abstract

To explore the effects of an alternating magnetic field on the microstructure and properties of narrow-gap TIG welding joints of a certain domestic TC4 titanium alloy,the characterization of the welding process's impact on the joint's microstructure and mechanical properties is delved into.The experimental results reveal that the initial microstructure of the weld and the heat-affected zone(HAZ)is composed of β-phase,α-phase,and α'-phase.The influence of the alternating magnetic field during the welding process is pronounced,not only affecting the formation and morphology of the strengthening phases,but also refining the grains through the promotion of molten pool stirring.Particularly,the alternating magnetic field is conducive to the generation of martensite in the weld.Under the welding parameters of 6.5 mT and 10 Hz,the content of martensite in the weld structure increases to 8.97%,which positively influences the mechanical properties of the joint,resulting in a joint strength of 1 040 MPa,surpassing the strength of the base material,and a tensile elongation of 6.9%,demonstrating good ductility.Additionally,the maximum microhardness values of the joint are observed in the HAZ,reaching a maximum of 355 HV,which correlates directly with the content and morphology of martensite in the weld.In summary,welding under the parameters of 6.5 mT and 10 Hz yields TC4 titanium alloy joints with superior microstructure and comprehensive mechanical properties.The research provides a basis and reference for the selection and exploration of welding parameters.
