Experimental study on mineralization cementation and dust suppression of red mud by urease spraying process

Abstract
Urease mineralization cementation surface protection treatment is a new technology to deal with dust from red mud dumps.The urease mineralization test on red mud was conducted by applying a spraying process to penetrate the urease solution into the surface layer.This study examined the effects of cementing solution concentration and the number of spraying rounds on the mineralization outcome.Additionally,wind erosion tests were performed to assess the impact of wind speed and blowing time on the specimens'resistance to wind erosion.The research results showed that,within a certain range,the miniature penetration resistance and calcium carbonate generation of the specimen increased with the increase of binder concentration and the number of spraying rounds,but the conversion rate of calcium carbonate decreased.The first round of calcium carbonate conversion rate of the spraying could reach up to 66.39%,and the conversion rate of the specimen under the concentration of 0.5 mol/L binder was higher than that of 1.0 mol/L.The water stability of the treated specimen was gradually improved with the increase of spraying rounds and concentration of cementing liquid,and the disintegration rate was reduced by 16%-19%in 1-3 rounds of spraying,and the wind erosion rate was reduced accordingly.The wind erosion rate increased with the increase of wind speed and blowing time,and the wind erosion rate of the specimen under the concentration of 1.0 mol/L binder was smaller.Urease mineralization technology addressed the challenges of red mud'characteristics,such as its strong alkaline and fine particles,by reacting with the cementing solution to produce abundant calcium carbonate crystals.These crystals bind the red mud particles into a hard shell,transforming the original loose particle structure of red mud.This process enhanced the strength and stability of the red mud,significantly improving its resistance to wind erosion and greatly reducing the phenomenon of blowing dust from the red mud.Urease mineralization technology can effectively enhance the mechanical properties and wind erosion resistance of red mud,offering valuable reference for similar applications.关键词
