Abstract

In order to identify the primary morphometric traits affecting the body weight of 17-month-old cultured Leiocassis longirostris in Shanghai,the phenotype parameters such as body length(X1),total length(X2),body height(X3),body width(X4)and body weight(Y)of 302 randomly collected 17-month-old individuals were measured.Correlation analysis,path analysis and multiple regression analysis were applied to study the effects of 4 morphological traits on body weight and construct an optimal multiple regression equation between morphological traits and body weight.The results showed that all measured traits exhibited extremely significant correlations with body weight(P<0.01),indicating that these morphological traits had a significant effect on body weight.The result of path analysis indicated that the direct path coefficient of total length(X2)on body weight(Y)was the largest,and its direct effect was greater than the indirect effects,making it the most critical trait influencing body weight.Traits with insignificant partial regression coefficients were eliminated,and collinear independent varia-bles were excluded,the optimal multiple linear regression equation was Y=-503.939+17.709X2+47.439X3+17.402X4.The goodness-of-fit test for this equation also reached an extremely significant level(P<0.01).Therefore,the total length trait should be considered as the primary indirect selection indicator in the artificial selection of L.longirostris with body weight as the target character.
