Reform and Prospect of Basic Biochemistry Courses Construction in Higher Agricultural Colleges and Universities

Abstract
Basic Biochemistry is a key foundational and compulsory course for undergraduate students in biological and plant production-related majors at higher agricultural universities,as well as a critical subject for graduate entrance exams.The course encompasses a wide range of topics and attracts a large number of students.It is typically managed by the Department of Biochemistry,as the metabolic reactions involved are complex,interrelated,and abstract,which makes the subject challenging to understand.The curriculum includes numerous theoretical concepts,broad content,and requires significant memorization,resulting in both students and instructors perceiving Basic Biochemistry as a difficult course to teach and learn.To ensure the successful completion of teaching tasks and achieve positive educational outcomes each year,the Department of Biochemistry at Shenyang Agricultural University has explored effective curriculum reform approaches in areas such as teaching methods,instructional techniques,faculty development,and assessment strategies.Over several years of reform practices,the curriculum construction has evolved from traditional chalkboard-based instruction to a hybrid approach integrating chalkboard,multimedia,and online open courses.Faculty development has also been enhanced through the incorporation of valuable experiences from renowned international universities and academic exchanges,improving the overall competence of the teaching staff.Additionally,the traditional closed-book exams have been upgraded to a computer-based examination format.Through these curriculum reforms,the Department of Biochemistry at Shenyang Agricultural University has developed a set of strategies for curriculum construction and reform,which may serve as a reference for other agricultural universities.关键词
