The Impact of Digital Economy on Carbon Emissions from Rural Household Consumption——An Empirical Analysis Based on CFPS Micropanel Data

Abstract
As the scale of the digital economy continues to expand,its impact on carbon emissions from rural household consumption has attracted much attention.Based on the four-period micropanel data of the China family panel studies(CFPS),the article empirically explores the impact of the digital economy on the carbon emissions from rural household consumption and its mechanism of action by using the two-way fixed-effects model and the mediated-effects model.The study found that:the digital economy could significantly reduce carbon emissions from rural household consumption,and this result still hold after instrumental variables test.The results of mechanism analysis showed that the digital economy significantly reduced carbon emissions from rural household consumption by promoting the upgrading of rural household consumption structure.Heterogeneity analyses showed that the impact of the digital economy on carbon emissions from rural household consumption was significant different in various regions and sub-samples with distinct household income characteristics.Thus,the digital economy should be developed,the coverage of the Internet,etc.,in rural areas should be expanded,as well as regional differences and household income disparities should be weighed in order to realize the carbon-reducing effects of rural household consumption in the digital economy.关键词
