WHO两版中医药术语英译国际标准比较研究
Comparative Study of WHO's Two Editions of International Standard Terminologies on TCM
摘要
Abstract
The World Health Organization(WHO)has issued two international standards for the English translation of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)terminology, namely WHO International Standard Terminologies on Tradition-al Medicine in the Western Pacific Region in 2007 and WHO international standard terminologies on traditional Chi-nese medicine in 2022.Comparative analysis reveals that the new version incorporates significant adjustments in many aspects, including purpose, target audience, participating experts, terminology selection, content organization, translation principles, strategies and methods. These modifications are driven by three primary factors:the contradiction between the inadequate development of TCM standardization and globally ever-growing needs for TCM,subjectivity of transla-tors,and the amplification of China's influence in international discourse.A wider dissemination of TCM culture asks for a further standardization of English TCM terms to ensure accuracy and consistency;meanwhile, the thinking style, value pursuit and philosophical wisdom of TCM should be considered in the translation process.关键词
