The Effect of Rumination on Prolonged Grief in Shidu Parents:The Mediating Role of Loneliness and the Moderating Role of Social Support

Abstract
Objective:To examine the impact of grief-related rumination on prolonged grief in parents who have lost their only child,and to explore the mediating effect of loneliness between rumination and prolonged grief in these parents,and to investigate whether the first half of this mediating effect is moderated by objective and subjective social support.Methods:A survey was conducted among 280 parents who had lost their only child using the revised prolonged grief ques-tionnaire,the Utrecht rumination questionnaire,the UCLA loneliness scale short form,the social network scale,and the in-terpersonal support evaluation list short form.Results:Rumination significantly positively predicted levels of prolonged grief,and loneliness partially mediated this relationship.Additionally,both objective and subjective social support moder-ated the first half of this mediating process.Specifically,when levels of social support were low,the positive predictive ef-fects of rumination on loneliness were greater;when levels of social support were high,the predictive effects of rumination were relatively smaller.Conclusion:Rumination in parents who have lost their only child may affect their levels of pro-longed grief directly and also indirectly through the partial mediating role of loneliness.Both subjective and objective social support can significantly mitigate the impact of rumination on loneliness.关键词
