The Effect of Family Economic Pressure and Socioeconomic Status on Migrant Children's Social Withdrawal:A Chain Mediating Model

Abstract
Objective:This study aimed to investigate whether differences existed between the impacts of family eco-nomic pressure and socioeconomic status on the social withdrawal of migrant children,and to explore the mediating roles of fathers'parenting stress and father-child conflict.Methods:459 migrant children from three primary schools and their parents were investigated using the family economic pressure scale,family socioeconomic status scale,parenting stress index-short form,parent-child relationship scale,and child behavior checklist.Results:(1)Family economic pressure,rather than socioeconomic status,significantly and positively predicted the social withdrawal of migrant children.(2)Family economic pressure had no direct effect on the social withdrawal of migrant children.Instead,it had an indirect impact through two pathways.One was the mediating effect of fathers'parenting stress,and the other was the chain-mediating ef-fect of fathers'parenting stress and father-child conflict.Conclusion:The impact of family economic pressure on social withdrawal differed from that of family socioeconomic status.Family economic pressure exerted its influence on the social withdrawal of migrant children entirely through the mediating role of fathers'parenting stress and the chain-mediating role of fathers'parenting stress combined with father-child conflict.关键词
