Reliability and Validity of Maladaptive Daydreaming Scale in Chinese College Students

Abstract
Objective:To verify the reliability and validity of the maladaptive daydreaming scale among Chinese college students.Methods:A survey was conducted on 7383 college students using the Chinese version of the maladaptive day-dreaming scale(CMDS-16),with the mind-wandering questionnaire(MWQ),web-based executive function questionnaire(WEFQ),GAD-7,and PHQ-9 as the calibrating index.Results:The correlation between the various items of the MDS-16 scale for Chinese university students and the total score ranged from 0.68 to 0.89.The confirmatory factor analysis results supported the four-factor structure of kinesthesia,yearning,impairment,and music,with a good fit of the first-order model.The revised scale had good structural validity:RMSEA=0.054,CFI=0.950,TLI=0.939.The alpha coefficients of each di-mension and total score of the Chinese version of the MDS-16 scale ranged from 0.77 to 0.97.The criteria validity analysis showed that maladaptive daydreaming was positively correlated with mind wandering,executive function,anxiety,and de-pression.Conclusion:CMDS-16 can serve as an effective tool for evaluating maladaptive daydreaming among Chinese col-lege students.关键词
