Spatial correlation network of China's tourism carbon compensation rate and its influencing factors

Abstract
Synergizing the promotion of green and low-carbon transformation and upgrading of regional tourism industry is an impor-tant initiative for China to advance high-quality development of its tourism industry and achieve the goals of reaching peak carbon emis-sions and carbon neutrality.From the dual perspectives of tourism carbon emissions and carbon sinks,this study constructed an evalua-tion index system for the tourism carbon compensation rate and calculated the compensation capacity of the tourism ecosystem to absorb carbon dioxide emissions from China's tourism industry during the sample period from 2005 to 2020.Moreover,this study also explored the spatial correlation network structure characteristics of tourism carbon compensation rate and its influencing factors using a modified gravity model and the social network analysis method.The results revealed that:① The tourism carbon compensation rate across prov-inces in China showed a fluctuating trend,initially decreasing before increasing,and demonstrated a slow transition from'carbon source'to'carbon sink.'Significant variations were observed in the carbon compensation rate of each region,with a spatial distribu-tion pattern characterized as'high in the north and south,low in the middle,high in the west,and low in the east.'The relative dispari-ties between provinces gradually widened,exhibiting a significant spatial polarization effect.② The spatial correlation network struc-ture of the tourism carbon compensation rate presented complexity and multi-threaded characteristics.The correlation strength of the carbon compensation rate between provinces increased over time,and the stability of the overall network structure improved significant-ly.Provinces such as Zhejiang,Jiangsu,and Fujian emerged as core dominant players in the network structure,while Xinjiang,Hainan,and Sichuan were in relative peripheral positions.③ The spatial connections within each block were relatively sparse,whereas the con-nections between blocks were relatively close.The eastern region served as the primary'two-way spillover'block,the central region as-sumed the role of a'broker,'and the western region functioned as the'net spillover'block.The distribution of provinces within the'net benefit'block was relatively loose,and the overall network of associations exhibited an evident regional club distribution charac-teristic.④ The differences in economic development,green science and technology innovation,and the structure of tourism traffic car-bon emissions had a positive impact on the spatial correlation network of the tourism industry.In contrast,differences in industrial structure exerted a significant negative impact on the formation of the network structure,while the effects of urbanization levels and en-vironmental regulation intensity changed over time.This study can provide practical references for promoting the high-quality develop-ment of China's tourism industry and accelerating the construction of ecological civilization.关键词
