Efficacy of Jingxin Dingzhi prescription combined with methylphenidate hydrochloride sustained-release tablets in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Jingxin Dingzhi prescription combined with methylphenidate hydrochloride sustained-release tablets in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)and its influence on children's social function.Methods 152 children with ADHD were Shanghai municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group,with 76 children in each group.The control group was treated with methylphenidate hydrochloride sustained-release tablets,while the experimental group was additionally given Jingxin Dingzhi prescription.Both groups were treated for 6 weeks.The clinical efficacy(scores of the SNAP-IV Scale,Conners Parental Symptom Questionnaire)and the improvement of social function(scores of the Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scales,Parental Homework Assessment Scale)were comprehensively evaluated and observed between the two groups before and after treatment.Results The scores of the SNAP-IV Scale and the Parental Homework Assessment Scale were significantly decreased in both groups in the third and sixth weeks of treatment compared with those before treatment(P<0.01).The improvement of the above symptoms was significantly better in the experimental group than that in the control group in the sixth week of treatment(P<0.01).In the third and sixth weeks,the Conners scores and total scores of the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05,P<0.01).A comparison between the two groups showed that the scores of symptoms and total scores of children except anxiety were significantly lower in the experimental group than those in the control group at the end of 6 weeks of treatment(P<0.05,P<0.01).A comparison between the two groups showed that,except for social activities,the scores of the Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scales and total scores were significantly lower in the third and sixth weeks after treatment than those before treatment(P<0.01).An inter-group comparison showed that the family and total scores were significantly lower in the experimental group than those in the control group after 3 weeks of treatment(P<0.05),and the scores of learning/school,life skills,social activities and adventure activities were significantly lower in the experimental group than those in the control group after 6 weeks of treatment(P<0.01).The response rate at week 3 in the experimental group(17.6%,13/74)was higher than that in the control group(11.8%,9/76)(P>0.05).The response rate at week 6 in the experimental group(82.4%,61/74)was also higher than that in the control group(69.7%,53/76)(P>0.05).Conclusion Jingxin Dingzhi prescription combined with methylphenidate hydrochloride sustained-release tablets can effectively improve the core symptoms in children with ADHD,including attention deficit,hyperactivity and impulsivity and social function.关键词
