Abstract

In order to clarify the physiological mechanism of naphthylacetic acid(NAA)-induced resistance to maize smut,in this study,maize inbred lines Ye478 and Qi319 were used as materials to analyze the effects of different concen-trations of NAA on the mycelial growth of Ustilago maydis,the activities of antioxidant enzymes and disease-resistant en-zymes,osmotic adjustment substances and the expression of defense-related genes in maize leaves,and to clarify the mech-anism of NAA-induced plant disease resistance.The results showed that 2.0 mmol/L NAA had a significant inhibitory effect on the pathogen of maize smut,and it had a good induced resistance effect after treating maize plants.Compared with the control groups inoculated with the pathogen alone and sterile water,the antioxidant enzyme activity,disease resistance-related enzyme activity and proline content of maize plants inoculated with 2.0 mmol/L NAA solution+pathogen for 24-48 h showed an overall increasing trend,and the malondialdehyde content was significantly reduced.At the same time,the expression levels of maize-related defense genes SOD,PAL,and LOX were up-regulated.At 48 h after inoculation,the relative expression levels of SOD,PAL and LOX genes in leaves of Ye478 and Qi319 inocu-lated with pathogen+2.0 mmol/L NAA increased by 52.44%and 56.83%,43.57%and 10.69%,47.44%and 81.08%,respectively,compared with those inoculated with pathogen alone.The results of this study provide a basis for the application of exogenous NAA to control maize smut.
