Abstract

To investigate the load-bearing capability of an opened cell steel-concrete composite joint,two reduced-scaled composite joints were specially designed based on the steel-concrete composite joint of Dongping hybrid cable-stayed bridge in the Guangzhan high-speed railway and subjected to axial compression capacity tests.The failure mode,relative slip curve between steel bottom plate and concrete,and strain distribution were explored,and the influence of using stud and notched perfobond connector on the bearing capacity of steel bottom plate was compared.The results show that the bearing capacity of the specimen is about 6.8 times that of the actual bridge design.The specimen using stud on the steel bottom plate is about 6%higher than that of the specimen using notched perfobond connector.Notably,the failure mode of both specimens is predominantly characterized by compression failure of concrete,with the connectors not being sheared off,indicating that the influence of connector type on the bearing capacity and failure mode of the joint is not significant.The concrete near the bearing plate of the two specimens was not crushed due to local pressure during the loading process,and the steel bottom plate was still in an elastic stage when the specimens were damaged.The notched perfobond connector can enhance the bonding performance between the steel bottom plate and concrete.
