Status quo of expectations for good death in elderly patients with chronic comorbidities
摘要
Abstract
Objective:To understand the status quo of expectations for a good death in elderly patients with chronic comorbidities. Methods:A total of 282 elderly patients with chronic comorbidities treated at a geriatric hospital in Yunnan province were conveniently sampled as the research subjects from May 2022 to December 2022.A general information questionnaire and Elderly of Good Death Inventory were used for the survey.A total of 12 patients were selected from the quantitative research subjects for semi-structured interviews by purposive sampling. Results:The total score of expectations for good death in elderly patients with chronic comorbidities was(127.66±14.88)points,in which the highest average score of items was the physiological comfort dimension[(4.35±0.51)points],followed by the respect dimension[(4.23±0.55)points],the psychological and mental support dimension[(4.06±0.57)points],the medical system support dimension[(4.03±0.57)points],the social relationship support dimension[(4.01±0.54)points],and the autonomy dimension(3.97±0.69)points].After correlating qualitative and quantitative research results,6 primary themes and 15 secondary themes were identified and refined. Conclusions:Elderly patients with chronic comorbidities have high expectations for good death. Therefore,it is recommended to implement interventions in terms of improving physiological status, maintaining dignity, psychological and mental support, communication, improving palliative care services, and end-of-life preparation to help elderly patients with chronic comorbidities achieve good death.关键词
