Effect of different storage conditions on breast milk's macronutrients,immunoreactive components,and breast milk quality

Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of different storage conditions on breast milk's macronutrients,immunoreactive components,and breast milk quality.Methods Fresh breast milk at 40-45 days postpartum was collected from 88 mothers at Hangzhou City Linping District Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital from March 2022 to March 2023,80 ml per person.The breast milk was divided into 7 portions,except for 1 portion of fresh breastmilk which was used for immediate testing,the other 6 portions were placed in storage at 4℃for 48 and 72 hours,at-20℃for 30 and 90 days,and at-70℃for 30 and 90 days,respectively.The differences were compared in macronutrients,immunoactive components and colony counts between fresh breastmilk and breastmilk stored at different storage conditions.Results Compared with fresh breast milk,macronutrients in breast milk decreased with storage time under 4℃,-20℃,and-70℃storage conditions,but were significantly different only at 90 days of storage at-20℃(P<0.05).Compared with fresh breast milk,only carbohydrates and dry matter decreased significantly at 30 days of storage at-20℃(P<0.05).The immunoreactive components of breast milk were not significantly different compared with fresh breast milk at-70℃(P>0.05),and the contents of secretory immunoglobulin A and interleukin-6 were lower than those of fresh breast milk at both 4℃ and-20℃(P<0.05).In addition,the total colony counts of breast milk stored at 4℃for 48 hours were not significantly different compared with those of fresh breast milk(P>0.05),and were significantly higher than those of fresh breast milk at 72 hours(P<0.05).The total colony counts of breast milk at the other temperatures and time periods were lower than those of fresh breast milk(P<0.05).Conclusion Breast milk can be stored for a short period of time at 4℃,and the storage condition of-70℃is more suitable for long-term storage of breast milk than that of-20℃,if the storage condition can only reach-20℃,the preservation time should not be more than 30 days.关键词
